据《旧唐书·党项传》记载和安西榆林窟第三窟的西夏壁画《酿酒图》考证，西夏酿酒历史悠久，西夏家庭酿酒已盛行于农家。有文献记载，西夏第五代皇帝仁宗仁孝天盛年间（1139-1193），西夏酿酒生产出现了空前的鼎盛时期，统治者设置“酒务”机构，指派专人负责日常事务，并通过法律的形式，相应制订了酒政与酒法，管理酿酒作坊，发展酿造业。甘洌清醇、芳香沁人的西夏美酒逐渐成为珍贵的馈赠礼品，向宋辽统治者朝贡。北宋陆游在酣醉后也挥毫泼墨写下《秋波媚》，称赞西夏美酒“凭高酹酒、此兴悠哉”。西夏贡酒业成立于1993年8月，占地面积200余亩，建筑面积25000多平方米。公司建有宁夏规模最大的浓香型白酒发酵基地-----大夏五谷酿酒坊和区内最大的白酒储藏酒窖-----西夏千坛酒窖。
